More Done

So I finished off the black detailing on the horrible red suspension, only had a bit of time this weekend, so not loads done but it all counts.

Much better in black and hidden, I really cant stand weirdly coloured mechanicals, especially on a 7esque machine. Each to their own though I know.

Im not going to do anymore painting now as I need to get the Zetec positioned so that the engine mount plates can be welded in. This is the picture the guys at Raw sent me when I bought the mounts from them.

Some other Strikers

As mine looks quite dowdy in the colour scheme I got it in I thought I'd post some others, mainly for Mick in Cayman to see. I like them all especially the orange one but my current thinking is the Ali panels will be satin black or carbon wrapped the front wings I have ordered are genuine Carbon Fibre. The front bonnet and nose will be white as will the rear tub. I was thinking orange but the existing seats are red piped and it has red Willans Harnesses (the expensive and king of harnesses) I think white, black with red detailing looks cool!

This OBVIOUSLY IS NOT a Striker but its the colours Im talking about...

My current interior and the reasoning behind not ditching the harnesses and seats. If I go with that as a plan I wont have to change the chassis tube colour in the cockpit or the seats/harnesses and maybe (not sure yet) the roll bar colour

Knowing me my mind will change on and off but its fine because Im concentrating on function first as I have learned from other builds to wait to do all the cosmetic stuff as things get scratched, scruffy or broken during builds some time. Im also trying to keep it so it can be put back together quickly if the weathers right some day in winter before completion of the total project/concept.

Engine parts for the build

This is just to explain to those who may be looking for answers in their own builds but the parts I will be using for the transfer to RWD and kit car fitting (space). Im using the 5 speed type 9 (sierra) gearbox. Last time I had an MT75 box also from a Sierra.

My kit list (others vary) is as follows;

Tiger ERA shortened sump
Retroford Water Rail
Spiggot bearing
Retroford flywheel
Small Alternator kit with brackets
Pinto clutch and release bearing
Inlet Plenum
1.8 Zetec water pump
Pipercross cone filter
Swirl Pot and HP fuel pump
Oil catch tank
Return fuel line
Water Expansion Tank
Raw Striker Zetec Engine Mounts

All parts purchased have been from Retroford, Tiger, OBS Motorsport and GBS (kit spares). Its worth shopping about for all this stuff especially the shortened sump and water rail as the GBS ones are very expensive and the Tiger Sump is a beautifully made bit of kit.

Zetec Donor

So those who read my other blog (hammyszero.blogspot.com) will know I am very familiar with the RWD set up of a Zetec. Last time I spent a fortune buying bits individually and was shocked by the costs. This time I have bought a complete 2.0 Mondeo

I'll be taking the engine, the engine loom, the RDB socket, the stock ECU and the imobiliser reader from the car and transfering them to the Stiker. I'll also be adding a single throttlebody inlet plenum with Pipercoss filter. All of this will save me around £2k!!

Engine out

The 1300 Crossflow is originally from a 1981 Ford Escort Mk2 and it has twin Weber 40's and a Vulcan head. I'm hoping it makes good money on ebay to fund some of the bits needed to put the Zetec in RWD set up.

Bought a new crane for the swaps

So its out and I have started the job of changing the chassis colour to black. I personally cannot stand weird coloured mechanicals, especially when they are exposed on a 7 type of car.

The Striker as it came

I've bought a regd and IVA'd Sylva (now Raw) Striker with the intention of swapping out the old Ford 1300 Crossflow and transplant with a 2.0 litre Zetec. Here's how I got the car....

One the engine swap is done and all that red metal work has been done black the car will get a total new more contemporary and racy look, black wheels etc etc
